        BBQ season is almost here! Organizers of the South Dakota State BBQ Championships want YOU to get involved!   The evening before the 2nd Annual BBQ Champs, there will be a chili competition open to anyone who wants to participate called the F.A.T. Friday Chili Challenge. The F.A.T. acronym means Friends, Appetite and Thirst and that is what you need to with you to the SD State Fairgrounds on June 6th! The South Dakota State BBQ Championships is held in conjunction with Wheel Jam V.
            The only rules to the F.A.T. Friday Chili Challenge are: the Chili must be prepared at SD BBQ Championships event area; chili may be prepared over an open fire or any other method; and you must make a minimum of three (3) gallons of chili. There is a $10.00 Registration Fee. Applications can be picked up at the SD State Fair Office or the Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau. They must be received by no later than 2:00 pm on Friday, June 6, which is the day of the event.
            The F.A.T. Friday Chili Competition will be judged in a “People’s Choice” format. So if you’re one who prefers not to cook, just come on out to taste! Prizes will be awarded in the following three categories; 1) service club/organizations 2) business/commercial 3) general/individual. Bragging rights and a traveling trophy will be awarded to first place in the service club/organizations and business/commercial categories and cash prizes will be awarded to first through third in the general/individual category! People’s Choice tasting will begin at 5:30 p.m. and finish at 7:00 p.m. Awards will follow. Come enjoy the camaraderie (and the opportunity to exercise your bragging rights) at the first ever F.A.T. Friday Chili Challenge!
