Kids


The Huron Public Library has a Children’s Librarian on staff who has special experience and training to assist kids. In addition, the library houses a fine collection of carefully chosen material, ranging from picture books to books suitable for young teens.

Special Library Features

  • "Story Time" for preschoolers during the school year.
  • Free movies during the Summer and at Holiday times.
  • Tours, orientation, and instruction in the use of the library for children and/or teachers.
  • Special programs and workshops.
  • The annual "Summer Reading Program." Books to read and discuss, storytimes, movies, crafts, games, special events, prizes.
  • Book Buddies and Pasque Readers book clubs.
  • Annual Christmas ornament make-and-take.

2012 Summer Reading Program
June 04 - July 26

  • Theme to be announced in May.
  • Runns for 8 weeks in the summer
  • A free program for all children in Huron and the surrounding areas, 2 years old and up.
  • There are weekly activities of crafts, story times, games, movies, bingo, special programs, weekly drawings, and much, much more. The goal is to keep children reading during the summer break from school; to get them in the Library to discover a world of books; and to have lots of fun along the way. Children must be registered to participate. Registration begins after the end of the school year; please call or visit the Huron Public Library to register.

Preschool Story Times

  • Story times for 3, 4, and 5 year olds
  • Tuesdays 10:00 – 10:30 am
  • Tuesdays 11:00 – 11:30 am
  • Wednesdays 10:00 – 10:30 am
  • Wednesdays 11:00-11:30 (if needed)

Reading enrichment for your youngsters, to foster the love of reading. Fun and interesting stories, puppets, songs, fingerplays, weekly crafts, and much more. Children must be registered to attend; please register by calling or visiting the Huron Public Library.

There’s lots of cool science stuff at National Geographic. Fun features like volcanoes and gophers. Plus "what in the world" where you can guess what a close-up picture shows.

Have fun with math, science, history, geography, and play other games too There is even stuff for parents and teachers.

  • For Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders.
  • September through March each year.
  • Every other Tuesday, 4:00 – 4:45 pm

There are snacks provided, stories to read and talk about together, and seasonal crafts to make. We will read the nominated books from the Prairie Bud list. Then in March, the children will be voting on their favorite one with the overall, SD winner announced during National Library Week in April.
